Ghost Writer
We all absorb the stories around us and we share bits of our personal stories through the visual wear and tear on our clothing. Think about how people's wallets have painted that shape in the back pocket or how pants that are too long have been bitten after many steps on the pavement.
Ghost Writer is a project that examines our personal stories, i.e., the worn areas, holes, patches, and or newness of the clothes we wear. As we hand down, mend, and recycle our clothing, we are ghostwriting chapters for others to wear.
This project was inspired by the annual 92 million tons of textile waste and how it is being left behind. As I repurpose expired clothing I am thinking about the chapters written by the previous owners...who I call Ghost Writers.
